Hi,
My name is Sonja, a visual Artist living in Munich, Germany. I love combining different techniques, especially gouache and ink on paper and wood. During the painting process, I usually create (small) figures, beings, and forms –sometimes with, sometimes without faces.
I have been working as a freelance artist since 2020 and I exhibit my art regularly.
Artist Statement
Central and recurring in my artistic work is the exploration of contradictions, ambivalences, and uncertainties. My art moves within a permanent tension between calming stillness and mysterious depth—a space in between, where protected vulnerability, melancholic quiet, and uncertainties converge.
To make these emotional spaces tangible, I choose not to define them, leaving their meaning open. The organic figures and beings I depict evoke a sense of wonder; they navigate between melancholic darkness and an almost playful approachability.
I wish to invite viewers to perceive the hidden not as a threat, but as a layered perception—as a space that allows for individual interpretations and an emotional simultaneity of feelings.
Throughout this creative process, I am constantly guided by the question: What do I reveal, and what do I keep concealed?
